What is the blockchain?

The blockchain is a database created in the form of a chain of blocks, each of which contains a series of information.
However, not all databases have the same functions: in some the data can be modified later by someone; This is not the case with blockchain databases, where information can no longer be changed once the block containing it is added to the chain. In fact, every time new information is added, a new block is created instead of modifying an existing one.
Therefore, blockchains represent digital ledgers and perform a number of different functions. This technology is the basis of cryptocurrencies spread all over the world, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, and is essential to guarantee the level of security and transparency that characterizes them.
